Comino and the Blue Lagoon: frequently asked questions
Yes, since May 2025. The official site says it plainly: “no one can step on land at the Lagoon without it”. It is a free QR code, with a time slot, booked at blcomino.com. How to book it.
No. “Do I need to pay for the QR code? No, access is free.” What you pay for is the boat.
Yes: “Anyone who steps on land at Blue Lagoon needs a QR code, including locals”. No cruise includes or handles it; you book it yourself.
Then no: the cruise listings say that “if you prefer to swim in it or stay on board, you will not need this ticket”. Nor for buying something at the kiosk and returning to the boat straight away.
Morning 08:00–13:00, afternoon 13:30–17:30 and sunset 18:00–22:00. On the booking page they appear half an hour apart (08:00–13:30, 13:30–17:30, 17:30–22:00): that is a boat-manoeuvring allowance.
Up to two months ahead, and same day too “depending on availability”. In summer, the sooner the better. Four people per booking at most; under-5s do not need one.
From Buġibba (6-hour cruises, €40 and €45), from Sliema (hop-on ferry, catamaran and schooner) and from Ċirkewwa (scheduled launches, unverified). Not from Valletta. The harbours.
From €36 for the hop-on ferry, €40 for the Comino cruise, €45 for Gozo and Comino, €75 for the schooner with lunch and hotel pickup and €89 for the open-bar catamaran. Comparison.
It depends on the boat: the whole day with the €40 cruise (six hours in all, with a 90-minute crossing), one hour with Gozo and Comino, 90 minutes with the schooner (and not guaranteed), and whatever you decide with the hop-on ferry.
About 90 minutes from Buġibba, according to the cruise listing. From Ċirkewwa it is much shorter, but we have not verified that service.
Yes. Under-5s need no pass. Note the €40 cruise: the 9:30 departure does not take under-12s; for them, the 9:00.
The boats change the order of stops or, on the schooner, swap Gozo for Mellieha. And the lagoon pass is not refunded: the official site “is not responsible” for weather cancellations. Check the weather before booking your slot.
Free up to 24 hours before on all five Civitatis boats. The pass, being free, is simply lost; it cannot be modified, but you can book another.
At the lagoon there is a food-and-drink kiosk (the official site mentions it when talking about quick purchases without a pass). Beyond that, nothing, and no shade either: bring water.
